Dear Residents,

With the colder months approaching and the price of heating oil increasing, residents are encouraged to check and secure their heating oil tanks.

Heating oil theft can happen at any time, so please consider the following crime prevention advice:

• Regularly check your oil tank and monitor fuel levels.  

• Ensure tank lids, caps and valves are securely locked.  

• Install security lighting, alarms or CCTV where possible.  

• Keep tanks visible from your property but screened from public view.  

Please report any suspicious activity, vehicles or individuals near oil tanks to the police on 999 if you think a crime is in progress. Please ensure you state this is rural crime to allow the Rural Task Force to be notified for their attendance.

Please stay vigilant and look out for your neighbors, especially elderly or vulnerable residents.
